Wood stand posts for your home and office DIY wooden standposts Wooden stand posts are easy to build for the home or office.
You can start with a standard-size wood stand, but you’ll quickly want to add an additional 4 inches or more to accommodate a taller wooden plant.
The stand posts below are all designed for a single-wide tabletop.
To get your wooden plantpost ready for installation, just attach a 2×4 to the back of the 2×2 and use the 3/4″ (15mm) holes in the sides to attach the bottom and sides of the stand.
The wood will hold together and keep the stand from falling over as you put down the posts.
Here’s how to make one of the wood stand posts.
Wood post and post frame The frame for your wooden standpost needs to be of the same thickness.
The frame of this wooden stand is 2×3.
You’ll need two pieces of 2×1 lumber.
The first piece is made of wood with a hole through it for the post to go through. Cut two 2×6s to fit the wood posts, then attach the post frame to the front of the second 2×8.
The post frame can be attached to the wooden stand frame with 3/8″ (13mm) strips of wood.
You may also need a small piece of 3/16″ (6mm) lumber for the posts on the top of the frame.
To attach the wooden post frame, use 3/32″ (12mm) wood screws.
Wood planks, boards, or other board materials to make the wooden plantposts are optional.
For this project, you can easily make your wooden plants from these materials.
If you’re building from a planks or boards, we recommend using 1/4″, 1/2″, and 1/3″ (9mm, 13mm, and 14mm) plywood, 2×5 (12.5mm) boards, and 2×7 (14mm) planks.
You might also want to consider using a thick, heavy, hardboard, which is usually heavier than the 2/2″ (5mm, 6mm) pine boards we’re using for this project.
To make your plantpost, cut 2 x 8s from 2×12 (or 1×16) boards.
Cut a piece of 1×8 (or 3/2″) plywood and cut another piece of plywood to fit your stand post.
Attach the 2×8 piece to the outside of the 1×2.
If your plant post has a top, cut a piece to cover it and secure the standpost with a 2×2.
Attaching the wood frame to a 2 × 2 planks You can attach the frame to any 2×10 (or 12×16 or 18×20) wood planks that fit between two 3/64″ (16mm) pieces of ply.
You’re just going to use 1/8″, 1, and 1″ (4mm, 8mm) screws to attach your wooden post to the top.
The bottom of the post will be attached by the 1/6″ (2.5 mm) screws and the top by 3/10″ (7mm) screw.
Use the same 3/6″, 1″, and 2″ (3mm, 5mm, 7mm) wooden screws that you used to attach wooden posts to your stand posts in the previous step to attach wood posts to the stand frame.
The wooden post frames can be built using a 1/16″, 3/48″, 1″ or 3/24″ (1mm, 2mm, 4mm, or 6mm), 1/32″, 3″ (11mm), and 1mm (5.5×5.25mm) square-cut lumber.
